High School Athletes Shine Even Brighter With The M Awards ~via @JeannetteKaplun
Until a few days ago, I had never heard of The M Awards. Which is a shame, because I know so many high school athletes doing amazing things for their communities. Two of them have an extremely special place in my heart: Daniella and Jake, my niece and nephew.
Ever since they were born I’ve loved them. Probably even before that. What has changed in recent years is how much I admire them. Not only are they wonderful people, but they juggle sports, school and community service. They excel at all of them, even if that effort means they are tired or can’t spend time with their friends. Jake just graduated from high school a few weeks ago and will be heading to NYU this fall to not only pursue his college degree, but also play baseball. Go Violets!
Daniella will be a high school junior in the fall. She’s been playing Varsity Lacrosse for two years already, is an honor roll student and has completed over 700 community service hours. Yes, you read that correctly. 700! She has helped Icare Icure, Debbie’s Dream, Chromes and Colitis, Best Buddies, Ronald McDonald House, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Aventura Hospital, while also feeding the homeless. Can you tell how proud I am?
That’s why I think they are great candidates for The M Awards. Sponsored by Mission Inc., The M Awards recognize up-and-coming “Athletes on a Mission” – high school student-athletes who are role models in their communities through their service to others. Since 2011, The M Awards has recognized 45 high school student-athletes throughout the country. Winners receive thousands of dollars in charitable grants for the non-profit of their choice. So much good can be done with that money.
Do you know a great student athlete that inspires others with their community service? Don’t miss the opportunity to nominate them for The M Awards! Applications and nominations for The 2016 M Awards will be accepted through July 15, 2016. You can apply or nominate someone you know using The M Awards online application. Aside from the award and honor, they might get a shoutout from their favorite pro athlete!
Disclosure: this post is part of a sponsored collaboration with The M Awards but I really love what they are doing to recognize student athletes. All opinions are my own.
